Si ipotizza che prima Antonio Pigafetta abitasse in Contrà Santa Barbara perché sua madre Lucia, seconda moglie di Giovanni, padre di Antonio, aveva proprietà lì. I Pigafetta erano fiorentini, che, nell'anno 1000, arrivarono a Vicenza con il nome di Della Rosa, ed erano guelfi. Infatti nella casa in via Pigafetta ci sono rose e iscrizioni.
